What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and whu?

(as i have lost my voice i will not be posting a voice over, instead i will just type it up)

Production company's are effectively the body's responsible for finding the funding, scriptwriters, cast and resources, although some directors prefer to find and try out cast for themselves, e.g for the first Evil Dead, almost the entire cast was made up of friends of Raimi.

A possible distributor would have to an independent one, one that is willing to take a risk and distribute films that may or may not sell, a possible distributor would be Film4 Productions, due to there record of realising independent British films, many of witch had box office success.

The funding would probably take a smilier path as with the original Evil Dead (starting to see a pattern?) with it mainly coming from friends, family and the odd independent source willing to take a risk.

Josh and Mark appear first as they were the first people seen in the film, i list myself solely as the director as, there is no way in hell i would be able to any sort of funding together for a film. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are listed as producers as i am a huge fan of the Evil Dead trilogy (as i tried, and failed, to base my film on the first Evil Dead).

Odds are if the film would be realised, it would come out in a smiler fashion to the first Evil Dead (seriously, if you cant see the pattern by now then there is no hope for you), limited distribution in Europe, and then if its a success, it may get distributed in America, with a very harsh rating, as the larger film studios can put pressure on classification boards to give a film a more "generous" rating, and small films don't get that luxury.

Who would be the audience for your media product

I would expect the target audience member to be in there late teens/early 20s, as for the tastes, i would not be able to generalise, i would not care where they would shop for example, as the film would attempt to target a large demographic, not a single group, but i would expect it to appeal to fans of the the Evil Dead trilogy, or films by Sam Raimi, or horror fans in general. For music tastes it would be those oriented more towards the rock/metal side of the musical spectrum, and not those who listen to universally slated charted rubbish. But as stated earlier there is no one demographic this film aspires to appeal to as, for example, most people will see the latest Hollywood blockbuster even if that is not the style of program they would watch on T.V. i would expect people to watch the film as it is a bloody good film, and has some extremely cheesy (and so very funny) moments in it, e.g the "worlds gayest run".

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product

The use of technology needed be more complex than first expected, as originally all that was used/needed was the Adobe Premiere Elements and my camera, but due to unforeseen technical difficulties i had to have the files converted with the use of a different laptop and then re uploaded onto Adobe due to the system being incompatible with the software on my camera and so causing Adobe to freeze and crash. The camera had other problems as well as the incompatibility, it was over sensitive to sound and for an unknown reason the picture was darkened when it was uploaded into the editing software, and there was a strange glitch that meant at the start and and of each clip there was no sound, that however may have been caused by the conversion of the footage needed for it to work on Adobe.

No extra know how was needed for the on line element of the project, as i already knew how to use sites such as YouTube and Blogger.

How dose your media product represent particular social groups

The only similarity is that both characters get killed early on in the film, they are both examples of the social group, that depending on the director and era of the film, always get killed, and are usually the first fatality. In big budget American films its often the attractive blond who dies first, but in more independent films, no one is protected from being the first casualty.
The first, and most obvious difference, between Linda (right) from the Evil Dead 2, and Some Poor Unnamed Sod 2 (left, yes that is the official title) is the gender difference. The second, is despite both being used as zombie/demon fodder, the reasons for getting offed, Linda was killed and posessed by an unseen demonic spirit, becoming a deadite, while Some Poor Unnamed Sod 2 was killed by an unseen zombie, and they were both in the wrong pace at the wrong time for different reasons, Linda was in the abandoned cabin with her boyfriend for a "romantic break" while it is implied that Some Poor Unnamed Sod 2 was in the recently abandoned school as him and Some Poor Unnamed Sod 1 were unaware of the zombie infesation, a situation also seen in Shaun of the Dead.

In what way dose your media product use, develop or challeng forms and conventions of real media products?

The title was chosen due to the infamous nature of the quote the title was taken from, with the full quote being "do not ask for whom the bell tolls, for it tolls for thee" so the use of that as a title makes it sound as if it is about the end, and the bell has tolled and all is lost. The only other use of the title is in a war film based on a book of the same name, completely unrelated to anything to do with mine.

The setting was chosen as due it being a school, and the dialogue implies that there should be people there, the absence of anyone cast an eerie feel until the creatures show up. The abandoned area is rarely used in the opening of the film, it normally comes up later on when the characters are trying to escape something to build suspense.

No costumes or props were used during the filming, just normal clothes as none were needed.

The camera work was an attempt to emulate the styles Sam Raimi used on the Evil Dead trilogy, hence the unseen shaky cam used for the unseen monster chasing people. The monologue at the end was meant to be in a smiler style to the one in the alternate opening to Army of Darkness, where you see Ash's face, cast in an eerie red light, and he narrates what has happened, however when moved into editing the software darkened every shot making it impossible to make out my face as i narrate what has happened, however the use of titles in that part cover up the problem.

The title font and style were used as i thought they looked awesome, with the static cutting off footage and cutting into the titles, accompanied by the Undertaker's gong was an awesome effect.

The story is not clear during initial part (the attack) as both characters get killed, however the voice over adds in the back story and general theme of the film, the fight for the survival of humanity during a zombie apocalypse.

The genre is quite clearly set as a horror, with the genre standard of people being attacked by an unseen monster, the title and voice over confirm that, with talk of the necronomicon and the rise of the dead.

The characters are introduced and then killed off, as they were not important, and the mysterious voice can be assumed is someone trying to warn people, or the past, about what has happened, and due to the connection cut off will not be seen again. Its quite rare in a film to have the first characters on screen to be killed off rapidly.

The only special effects used was the blurring of the camera in editing to represent the different vision of the unseen creature, this was used to truly distinguish the creature from normal camera shots, due to a lack of resources to make it like the unseen creactures from the Evil Dead trilogy.
